Now start the engine and set the idle speed to around 850 rpm with the idle-speed screw. If your engine has a big cam and must idle at a higher speed, that's OK. Note the reading on the vacuum 2. Engine stalling. Stalling or freezing of the engine is another common idle air control valve symptom. Your engine requires an optimal amount of air and fuel mixture to run efficiently. If the idle air control valve fails, your engine won’t get its much-needed source of air to maintain a proper idle. Take the paper clip and open it up and form it into a big "U" shape. Insert the clip ends into the ALDL in the ‘A’ and ‘B’ pins. Turn on the ignition, but don’t start the engine. Wait 30 seconds. Now, go remove the connector from the IAC. Start engine. You are now going to adjust "minimum air". There is a Torx screw on the side of the 1. Warm up the engine. 2. Set the idle speed to 850 rpm and move the duty cycle adjustment to the middle. 3. Unplug the idle valve. 4. Adjust the bypass screw until the engine runs at 450 rpm. If you can not reduce the idle to 450 rpm, then you have an air leak.

OK, got a newer A/C compressor in and charger it. A/C works now, but not when idling. I have to rev it manually to about 1,000 to get it to kick on. When I do have the A/C is on, the RMP's drop, it runs rich and sputters at idle and while driving. I know I am missing something simple. Kind of

MEMBER. 2000 HONDA CIVIC. 4 CYL. FWD. MANUAL. 98,500 MILES. The idle goes up and down but it really goes down to 300rpm when I turn on the a/c but only when I comes to a complete stop. It almost shuts off the car and shakes real bad. It drives find with out the a/c being on.I turned the idle up just a little bit but that helped just a little.
Going through the shop manual, regarding the AC idle up circuit, here's what it says for how to troubleshoot: Measure the resistance between the terminals in the IAC valve (Idle Air Control valve, its job is to adjust idle speed as necessary, it is located on the bottom of the throttle body).

Procedure - turn 1/4th in, check for shake - if no shake, turn another 1/4th in, check for shake - if no shake, turn another 1/4th in and so on. When engine starts to shake, back-off (turn the screw counter-clockwise) 1/2 turn and you set the curb idle mixture correctly. Regards, Dusky Lim. joyluck614.
